The Chesterfield brand introduces its own bag range

TYNAARLO- Who has never heard of Chesterfield sofas, the robust English padded leather sofas? Now the Chesterfield Brand will be launching its own bag range in April 2010. Its cooperation with Dutchbag B.V, one of Europe's largest importers and exporters of brand bags, will produce four edgy bag collections a year, inspired by the authentic English Chesterfield style.

From sofas to bags – it is a remarkable brand extension. General Director Koos Hoving of Dutchbag explains: “We already had ambitious plans to enter the higher price segment. Quality trendy leather bags are expensive. Affordable brands too classic. There were few fashionable leather brands in the 100 to 200 euro price segment. A fashionable leather brand name bag at affordable prices proved a niche in the market. So we were looking for a new label that would address those consumers interested in leather bags that age beautifully and last for years.” The Chesterfield Brand first approached Hoving in early 2009. Sharing an ambition to fill the gap in the market with fashionable leather bags in the lower regions of the higher price segments, the companies soon decided to work together. The Chesterfield Brand and its upper-class image provides a unique platform to market a new, distinctive product.

The Chesterfield bag will be the perfect tool to celebrate success. Marketing manager Anouk Bos says: "The Chesterfield Brand" is a name that stands for success. Our communication will target consumers who wish to seal their success, ambition or performance with a stylish and ageless accessory, but who cannot (yet) afford expensive high-end brands. Looking for an effective way to show others that they are successful, this group offers plenty of potential.

The styling is about contrasts. The authentic English Chesterfield style combines with rugged elements to give it a unique appeal. Stylist Viona van Dijk has years of experience working with leather and is responsible for designing the collection. “I was set the challenge of translating the classic Chesterfield feeling into fashionable bags with a rugged appeal. I know I will have succeeded when girls and women cannot resist these must-have bags.”
